There are countless newsmakers we come across on social media platforms or in dailies, but only some influence us so deeply that we desire to meet them in person.
And one such personality is Laxmi Agarwal. She is an acid attack survivor who was in the news lately following the release of her biopic, the Bollywood movie, ‘Chhapaak’ starring Deepika Padukone.
So along with news, pictures, and trailers of the movies, pictures, and stories about Laxmi Agarwal also filled the social media.
There were discussions, interviews, and videos about her life and that’s how I come to know more about her.
Laxmi Agarwal became a victim of this brutal crime when she turned down a marriage request from a neighbor.
She suffered severe burns on her face and she was so shattered and traumatized that she ever contemplated suicide.
But her spirit was unbeatable she did not reconcile to her fate. In the country, she did not confine herself to the four walls of her house, silently suffering the agony and the humiliation.
She rose like a phoenix from the ashes, decided to move on. She completed her diploma, founded an NGO to help victims of such effects. She spearheaded a campaign to regulate the sale of acids even.
She received the international woman of courage award from Michelle Obama and is now a motivational speaker. Her dazzling smile tells the story of grit and confidence in the face of adversity.
So it’s my dream of the day that I can meet her.
